Mike

Michael Hochman joined his father's dixieland band, The Bars & Tonics, when he was just ten years old, playing the old Clam Festival and Fine Arts Festival when they were held on the Annapolis City Dock. His versatility on saxophone had him playing baritone sax with the Boston University Jazz Band his freshman year of college, and then lead alto his sophomore year before joining The Refried Boogie Band, a working Boston bar band, on both tenor and alto. Upon his return to Maryland for law school, he formed the alternative band Yanomamo in the mid 80's, playing mostly original music and gigging at infamous Baltimore venues of the past including the Marble Bar and Galaxy Lounge. Michael currently has his own downtown Annapolis law office, records with varying artists and still plays dixieland with his father's group, now known as Dr. Rick Hochman's Dynamic Dixieland Band.



Bill

Bill McHenry started as a child star singing and dancing in night clubs and on local TV shows in Hawaii at age 10. He was a student of Peggy Ryan and met and danced with greats such as Sammy Davis, Jr. At age 14 he took up the drums, playing for his father's dixieland band and later with regular gigs in and around Washington, D.C. Bill was drafted into the Army in 1969 where he played drums for the Army Band out of Augusta, Georgia. He moved to Annapolis in 1984, where he was the drummer for BJ Doyle at the Annapolis Yacht Club, played dixieland gigs at the Topside Restaurant in Galesville, and backed up Joe Byrd's Band in downtown Annapolis. Bill can be seen drumming with Dr. Rick Hochman's Dynamic Dixie Band at the Ram's Head Tavern and has been playing throughout Maryland for the past three years with The Harbor Cats.



John

John Starr, a multi-instrumentalist on bass, flute, vocals and keyboards, began his musical studies at age seven on violin. Many instruments and performances later he attended Washington College, where he studied music theory and composition with Garry E. Clarke. In 1982, Mr Starr was one of four composers chosen to create a work "But I never Lived on Campus" commemorating the 200th anniversary of the school. Shortly after graduation he became a founding member and principal composer for the critically acclaimed Fusion-Jazz band Wooden Hands. In 1988 Mr. Starr wrote the first of several original works, "Baudelaire - Poemes Choisis". for the Annapolis Chorale. He later became composer-in-residence for the Chorale, and continues to create arrangements for this group. Among these arrangements is the "Motown" part of the "Mozart to Motown" concert series, performed with, among other groups, The Annapolis Chorale, The Calgary Philharmonic, The Florida Orchestra, and most recently, The Evansville Philharmonic. From 1986 to 1992 Mr. Starr was priviledged to study with Dr. Asher Zlotnik, who he regards as his true mentor. Mr. Starr has also been involved in the creation of music for numerous theatrical productions, the latest of which is "Amelia's Journey", which opened in July of 2004. In June of 2008 "Amelia's Journey" was performed with the Londontowne Symphony Orchestra. Currently he serves as Director of Key School's Jazz Ensembles, a post he has enjoyed since 1996. He also writes arrangements for the School Chorus, Chamber Choir and Middle School Wind Ensemble, in addition to teaching numerous private lessons.



Dick

Dick Glass, a multi-instrumentalist on trumpet, keyboard, guitar, and bass from South Portland, Maine. Mr. Glass joined the U.S. Army right out of high school, and graduated from the U.S. Naval School of Music in Washington, D.C. He spent two years performing with U.S. Army Bands in both the U.S. and Germany. After his discharge from the Army, he attended Berklee School of Music in Boston, and performed with several New England based bands. Mr. Glass toured the east coast and made one trip opening for Frankie Vallee and the Four Seasons. He re-joined the military a few years later by joining the Naval Academy Band as the lead guitarist in the newly formed touring rock band "Tidal Wave". After five years with Tidal Wave, he transferred to The U.S. Navy Band in Washington, D.C. as a multi-instrumentalist with the rock band "Port Authority". In 1995, Mr. Glass retired from the Navy with the rank of Senior Chief, and has been free-lancing throughout the Mid-Atlantic.
